My Mother's Daughter

24"t x 8"w x 8"d

I began building smaller chairs for those who lack the space for the larger pieces. My Mother's Daughter reflects my place in the family. Since I am the oldest of six children, I have lots of first time memories. In this piece the chair form, with its miter-arched back, refers to storytelling and the vine of branches refers to the family tree, which takes over the story part of the piece. The sky blue girl's dress is made from a series of saint images impressed, literally, into the form.
